(1450 25th St S, Fargo, ND) — lunch
Entree: Sushi Regular
Drink: tea
Cost: $17.44
Yuki Hana bills itself as a Japanese and Korean BBQ joint. I don't know anything about that. I'm just there for the fish. Raw fish. Good raw fish. And it usually delivers. It's the "usually" part that gets me. On a piece-by-piece basis, Yuki Hana is very inconsistent. Salmon is usually a sure bet and any place that screws up unagi ought to be avoided at all costs and shut down by the Sushi Police.
Sushi Regular consists of 10 nigiri pieces, 4 rolls, miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. The nigiri and rolls are chef's choice, but sake, unagi, ebi and tuna are almost guaranteed along with either spicy tuna or California rolls. Today, the chef added in yellowtail and some unknown whitefish. It was all perfectly acceptable. Nothing to write home about. Nothing to go out of your way for (unless you live in Fargo, since it is the only sushi game in town). Usually the salmon is outstanding. The joke is that it's fresher than the other cuts since they get it right out of the Red River. Today it was just so-so.
Service is always quick and friendly. Decor is about as charming as you can get in a strip mall. Although this visit was weak, I still plan on visiting Yuki Hana weekly. It's got to be better for me than McDonald's.
