sledding hill
it's almost precisely 2.5 miles south of where I start my regular southern route.I've run by it a few times in the past 17 weeks of training [17 weeks! -- ed]. I've run by it on a couple of long runs to the south. Ran by it the time I ran with Nettie north from 31st. The first time I ran by it was during my longest run in the 2005 Marathon training season. Maybe my memory is bad, but it seems like it's changed a lot since then. Then, it was just a plain old hill, a mound of dirt. Now, the city has added stairs and a path and railings and flowers and signage. Kids were probably already sledding on it. The city just gave in.
5.01 miles, 51:58 minutes, 10:23 min/mi
no stopping. no walking. no rehydration. so many swarms of bugs screwing in midair that at times it looked like mist. I'm certain I inhaled some.

it's not that secure
there's a truck outside from Recall. Slogan: Your Information. Managed Securely.
Yeah. The truck is unlocked. The driver is inside the building somewhere. I could run off with a whole truckload of "Your Information".

no run
came home too late last night. woke up too late this morning.
on the one hand this violates my decision to enforce what I called "my values for 2009". The number one value is 'health'. 'health' is supposed to trump 'work', but here i am, aborting my run to make to work in some semblance of "on-time".
yes, I could have gotten up earlier, but as a subset of 'health', 'sleep' trumps 'working out'.
on the other hand, my crazy work schedule, is going to force my long run to Friday evening. I was thinking four days of running in a row is probably not right. work is also enforcing a 32-hour work stint this weekend, so 'work' will trump 'health' twice in the next 7 days.

What did you learn from your biggest failure?
The only people who love me have always loved me. There is no new love coming my way. No one grows to love anyone. They may grow to respect you or tolerate you, but not love you.

am i nuts?
10 miles kicked my ass today.how in the hell am i going to run 26.2 in October?
No, really. This is insane. You can't go from not running to running a marathon in 30 weeks.
10 miles, 1:46:40 hours, 10:39 mi/min
You know what I learned this morning? You can run through a tight calf and it will go away. Now, my ankles hurt. I probably won't be able to walk in the morning.

when is the last time you even saw a Viper?
Chrysler restarts Viper factory - Jun. 15, 2009: "The Viper has a 600 horsepower V-10 engine and a price tag that starts at about $90,000. The Viper was introduced in the 1992 model year, and only 25,000 have been sold since then."
25,000.
25,000.

i wasn't going to run today
I had every intention of taking the day off. I knew my left calf was tight. I thought an extra day of rest for it would get me ready for the 10-miler on Saturday.
but then I thought, "what happens if I tight calf on the day of the Marathon?" I'll run on it, that's what will happpen.
So after hemming and hawing for about 45 minutes in bed, I got up and ran.
3 miles, 28:52 minutes, 9:36 min/mi
Dammit, that's not taking it easy. This time I have no excuse. I didn't catch anyone. I tried not to look so I didn't even chase anyone. I just ran. Maybe, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was out late and would be late to work. I didn't leave the condo until 6:45. I had to be in the shower by 7:30.
As it turns out, I didn't get back to the condo until 7:30. I still had to sync my data and eat. I also took time to stretch. The calf tightened up, but not as bad as the prior two runs. Still, I stopped at the gym and did some calf stretches. Hopefully, I'll be good to go on Saturday. I'll be cross-training on Sunday, by running-walking with some new runners.
Why people think I'm already experienced enough to show other the truth and the light is beyond me. I'm just as lost as everyone else.
